Exploratory Writing W6B

I heard about Bitcoin many years ago, and many people have made a lot of money buying it. However, it seems that it is not Bitcoin that has made NFT famous but crypto art, which has a unique quality that makes it rarer and more irreplaceable than many ordinary works of art. For example, each digital character in CryptoPunks is unique and irreplaceable; but Bitcoin from different people is the same. Even though they both originate from the Internet, CryptoPunks are Non-Fungible tokens, but Bitcoins are Fungible tokens. By reading the article, NFT's artwork is officially owned by one person, but it is not forbidden for anyone to view it. I think NFT is like a limited-edition gold coin from the Bank of China every year. Everyone has the right to find information about the limited-edition coins online, but each currency is uniquely coded and owned by only one person. Therefore, it is worth much more than a regular gold coin and can be sold again even after many years.

I think what appeals to me about CryptoPunks is that it is an entire community and a complete "living system" with new sections being added all the time. Just having the CryptoPunks pixel avatar won't attract people for long, but the listing of its blockchain mini-game Cryptokitties has turned CryptoPunks into an up-and-coming community. What'sInterestingly, in the Cryptokitties game, when buyers own two cats, they can breed a new breed of cat. This perfectly simulates the real-life situation where two cats can generate many kittens, and the buyer has no idea what species is being bred. According to the rules, the rarer the breed, the higher the price will be. I think this creates a gambling mentality for buyers. I think it gives the buyer a gambling mentality, knowing that later on, it offers more and more ways to play, and more and more money starts to flow. I think it might be a spiritual world/virtual world way of life.

NTF arts are attractive for people because it is not only a picture or a video; it is a community that provides people a space to communicate with each other (Chris's lecture). It reminds me that as humans, no matter what ways we choose to communicate, we shouldn't lose real connection with other people and the world. Internet is a way for posthuman to communicate more accessible, and it plays an essential role for NTF arts because the Internet is like a medium for NTF art. I was shocked by the profit that NTF makes. It is rare to see some contemporary art spread so fast, and one-piece can make money by constantly trading. By watching Chris's lecture, I appreciate that NTF and the Internet provide young artists and everyone opportunities to upload their art and make money or benefit society. At first, I did not think that online art could generate such tremendous benefits. Still, after learning about NTF and CryptoPunks, I realized that the online environment is indispensable for disseminating and profitability of art.
