Exploratory Writing W9A

Post-internet art does not necessarily seem to be video art, web art, or web-based artworks. As time goes on, humans are becoming more and more inseparable from the Internet. The Internet is a medium that can ferment bacteria; it is also a medium that can suppress viruses. Professor Phillips writes that we are in a time of great crisis (Phillips, 2020). This struck a deep chord with me. A variety of highly contagious mutated viruses surround us. At the beginning of the COVID-19 period, I even felt a very serious invisible oppressive feeling. The growing awareness of resistance to racial discrimination has led to many large-scale incidents. Microplastics, global warming, and the 2020 fires are making the air not so great. Professor Phillips described this is a time of crisis (Phillips, 2020). These objective and human factors make many people afraid to go out as often as before. This has also affected the lives of many people. At the same time, traditional museums and exhibitions are no longer the best way to exhibit works of art. In her article, Marisa writes that post-networking is no longer synonymous with "novelty" (Olson, 2011). It's something that's been around for a long time and is something that people are used to being mediocre. Especially with the advent of environmental, humanistic, and viral crises, the Internet has inadvertently been pushed to the "altar." Post-Internet art is no longer the territory of digital art, but art created in such an era because people are used to the presence of the Internet. These arts are more or less related to the trends and topics of the times. And these topics of the times are spread by the Internet.

Professor Phillips states in his article that the Internet is part of life (Phillips, 2020). I believe that post-humanity can no longer live without the Internet, just as artworks in pandemics cannot be exhibited without a virtual museum. The Internet is like an invisible figure that allows political topics to fester. Big events about resistance to racism are also fermented through the Internet. It is also a very challenging test of people's ability to distinguish right from wrong. People use the Internet's ability to control public opinion, so it's challenging for "ordinary people" to determine right from wrong. The role of the Internet for COVID-19 is something I've been thinking about. Sometimes I think the Internet is like a drug for coronavirus. The CDC and other health centers post alerts and information through the Internet so people can find ways to protect themselves and fight coronavirus promptly. However, sometimes I think the Internet acts as an uncontrollable agent of fermentation and panic. In 2020, some people believed that the information on the Internet about coronavirus is false and a political hoax. As a result, it led to a lot of panic and rioting. The relationship between the crisis in society and the Internet is very complex. It is undeniable that the Internet has become a way of life. It has made many brick-and-mortar stores and museums less popular. This time of crisis may be an opportunity for the Internet to become better. At the same time, I also believe that the greater the capacity, the greater the responsibility required. The Internet needs to take responsibility.
